How to Help

Help in any way you can. Even a little gesture goes a long way.

  1. Give an Annual Scholarship:
  2. For the 2011-2012 academic year, a scholarship at Konkan Education Trust Schools covers full tuition and mid-day meals. A scholarship cost Rs 5500 (~ 125 USD depending on exchange rates). Imagine, $125 supports a student to attend an academically excellent school in Kumta and includes a nutritious vegetarian meal, freshly prepared on the premises. I have eaten there and it is excellent!

Donate with your Credit Card on PayPal:

or, Send a check for Rs 5500 directly to the Shanbhag Scholarship Fund at the Konkan Education Trust. The trust is a not-for-profit organization registered in India. You will receive a receipt directly from the Trust.

If you are an Indian (NRI) residing anywhere else in the world, send a check for equivalent dollars directly to the Trust. May I ask you to add $10 more to the dollar amount to cover bank charges and exchange rate fluctuations. Extra funds remains in the Trust and supports partial scholarships, or used to waive food costs for poor families.

If you are a non-Indian, the trust does not have governmental permission to accept donations from foreigners. You can mail a check to me (address below) and I will forward the equivalent funds to the trust. You will receive a receipt from the Trust. Please contact me at the address below.

  3. Give a Magazine Subscription
  4. You can subscribe to a magazine for delivery to the school library. The students appreciate reading general knowledge magazines and the teachers also use them as teaching aids.

    Send subscription to:
    Saraswati Library
    Konkan Education Trust
    Attention: Mr Murlidhar Prabhu
    Vidyagiri, Kumta 581 343

  5. Buy Books for the Library:
  6. We are currently developing a list of books that you could purchase directly from book sellers in Mumbai and have them shipped to the School Library. Please contact me for more details.

    Hi,
Is this fund for only Shanbagh High School or others too??

    Arun Shanbhag - February 27, 2011

We started by supporting students at the Shanbhag School. but now have expanded to four other local school in Kumta. This year we supported 25 students at the Shanbhag School and an additional 25+ students from the other schools in Kumta.

As we move forward, we will likely expand our scholarships to other schools. ultimately, our goal is to support ALL needy students in whichever school they are in Kumta.

I am currently in Mumbai and if you would like more detailslet me know and we can talk.
    Best
    Arun

I’m a student from United World College, Singapore and have a group here that intended to support Shanbhag High School but now that you have a fund, we’d like to send over the money we collected to you.
However I would need the names of the other schools the fund supports as well as how to get the money over to you?
I visit Mumbai every 2 months if that helps.

    Arun Shanbhag - March 3, 2011

    Hi Aashna:
    Thank you for your kindness.
On our main page, I just posted a complete list of students we supported in the 2010-2011 academic year and the six different schools they represent.
I also sent you an email about contributing funds to needy students.
Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.
    Arun
